Jazz Saxophone

As a saxophone student in the Jazz Studies department, you will be immersed in a performance-based program that integrates you into the thriving jazz environment in New York City. You will work closely with our dedicated faculty members who are among today’s most innovative and respected jazz musicians and educators. In addition to receiving 15 one-hour private lessons per semester, you will participate in monthly studio classes taught by the entire saxophone faculty. Saxophone students also have the unique opportunity to study clarinet and flute in doubling classes in order to enhance ensemble skills.

All Juilliard Jazz students have numerous opportunities to gain experience with an eclectic repertoire by performing as members of the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra and in a variety of small ensembles during each academic year. Juilliard Jazz students are also selected to teach alongside the faculty and coach students at summer jazz residencies.

In addition to an active schedule of concerts at Juilliard and featured performances at venues in New York City, students tour nationally and internationally to destinations such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, and Australia. The outstanding touring program sets Juilliard Jazz apart from every other jazz education program in the United States.
