The Juilliard School announced on May 10, 2017, that it had selected Damian Woetzel to serve as its seventh president effective July 2018. Woetzel was chosen after an extensive search process led by a board-appointed search committee and Board Chair Bruce Kovner in consultation with faculty, student, and staff advisors.
To support its commitment to an inclusive and ethical search, Juilliard retained Isaacson, Miller, a leading executive search firm. Isaacson, Miller received more than 100 nominations via a dedicated website, community surveys, and email submissions. In addition to their work with the faculty, staff, and student advisory committees, the board search committee conducted dozens of in-person meetings with the Juilliard community, donors, and alumni, as well as distinguished leaders in higher education and the arts, with the goal of appointing a leader who will sustain the excellence and humanity of the Juilliard mission while enhancing the school’s vital role in the lives of individuals and communities around the world.
